Towboat Elizabeth Lea Preservation Society is organized exclusively for educational, historical, and preservation purposes centered around the 1939 built dredge tender towboat, NRHP, Elizabeth Lea including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code.
The Towboat Elizabeth Lea Preservation Society aims to operate, maintain, educate, and share with the general public the 1939 built towboat Elizabeth Lea through special events and river town festivals.
The specific objectives and purpose of this organization shall be:
A. To maintain/restore the vessel to excellent operating condition.
B. To operate the vessel, attending river town festivals and special events so that the general public can see and learn about the history of inland river transportation, the boat's specific function while working commercially, and the importance of the inland waterways as the most economical and environmentally friendly means to move bulk cargo.
C. To provide a location for people to visit the boat for research/educational purposes.
